I was born in 1959 and grew up on a small farm in Southern Denmark. I have been taking pictures since the 1970es, mainly using color slide film.
I took up nature and wildlife photography during trips to Ecuador since 1981. I was originally mainly interested in wild landscapes and birds, but insects, flora and local culture grew on me as well.
My specialty became tropical tree botany, and I have been fortunate to work extensively in four of the most diverse regions of the World, Yasuní NP of Amazonian Ecuador, Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, Krau Wildlife Reserve of Peninsular Malysia, and Sarawak, Borneo.
Scientifically, I have taken M.Sc. and PhD degrees doing quantitative floristics of rain forest and soil studies in Amazonian Ecuador and in Costa Rica, and on uses of products harvested from natural rain forest.
Since 1982, I have been engaged in voluntary NGO work regarding conservation issues on natural forests, particularly in Europe and the tropics, on the rights of indigenous forest peoples, and sustainability projects, through the association "Verdens Skove"/Forests of the World.
I have written two books on natural woodland ecology in Denmark and Central Europe, and in this proces become very interested in the role of large herbivores in natural ecosystems.
Since 2006, I have teached Biology and Geography at levels of 11th and 12th school year in Denmark (gymnasium). Since 2015 I have taken up digital photography, and taking up entomology, in particular hoverflies.
