I was born in Rosedale, Georges Township, Pennsylvania which is near Uniontown, Pa. I attended grammar school at Oliphant Furnace, Pa and then Georges Township High School, York Run, Pa. I was married to Billye Whatley in Houston, Texas. Billye died in 1989 and was buried at Poole Cemetery, Montgomery County, Texas. I now live in Harper Woods, Michigan with my two wire-haired Daschund dogs, my true and loyal companions! I have a garden with vegetables and all sorts of perennial flowers. My housekeeper, Erika, keeps my house in order. I attend Mass every Sunday at St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic church in Detroit, about a mile from my home. I am Secretary of Grosse Pointe Chamber Music which involves mainly getting the programs out to about the 250 membership. I have lots of grape vines remaining but don't think I'll be making wine anymore. I took out four trellises of vines in 2006 which sort of eliminated my mini-vineyard but I still have one trellis and several arbors. Thanks to my yard service the grounds are taken care of and look fairly neat and well-groomed. I bake my own sour-dough bread which is healthy and delicious. I use whole wheat flour for the starter and unbleached white flour for the actual dough. I can a lot of tomatoes from my garden in late summer which I use for stews, spaghetti sauce, etc. I also grow lots of peppers, bell, cayenne and jalapeno. I also grow a lot of egg plants which I usually use for making egg plant parmigiana. I cook some Hungarian dishes. I especially like chicken paprikash made like the Hungarians do. One of my favorite garden plants is Swiss Chard which I either just parboil and serve with butter, salt and pepper or saute with garlic and butter. I watch a little TV mostly news oriented programs, occasional movies and Tigers' baseball. With my brand new Magnavox 32" HD television set and AT&T's new U-verse service I now have cable TV and hi-speed internet so I may watch TV a little more often. I spend time on my computer every day watching the stock market mostly, watching it go up and down. The doctors at the VA hospital in Detroit take care of my health matters. I had my left lung removed in 2002 due to cancer but thus far there has been no recurrence thankfully. I am still reading Bill Clinton's autobiography and have read a few champters of Lee Iocca's new book. With these exceptions I don't read much anymore except for the Detroit Free Press newspaper which is getting smaller by the week. I guess the new owners want to save money like almost everybody else. Who ends up with the savings? I wonder, probably Wall Street investors.
