Back in 1994 I purchased my first SLR; a 2nd hand Minolta 7000i with kit lens 35-105mm and I casually learnt the basic functions to get by. I went through a couple of years enjoying this camera before digital came along and the cost benefits of buying and developing film just seem illogical to continue using.

10 years passed, shooting pictures with compact digital cameras before I decided to pick up a DSLR. At that time the Canon 450D was getting decent reviews and I had been considering buying for a number of months. Fate had it that in 2008 I was posted to work in Kuala Lumpur for a month and that is where I decided it was time to put down my cash. Work commitments at the time and for years after consumed much of my life, so the camera and my desire to get to grips with improving my photography took a seat on the shelf again. A few more years passed and one day with time on my hands I thought to make use of or sell the camera. I think that is the moment I picked up the camera with determination to really focus on understanding what I need to do to take a decent shot. In the 4 years or so from then to 2017 it went from determination to an obsession to improve my skills / knowledge. Everything I have learnt in photography has either come from experimentation, books, or Youtube videos and I forever aim to improve and push my own skills and creativity.
