I have been into photography for thirty odd years now and have always liked different things such as fisheye lens, infrared photography and odd cameras. A couple of years ago while searching the interweb for pinhole cameras I came across Matt Abelson's website for his www.abelsonscopeworks.com/ scope works and was inspired by his omniscope camera. like Matt I am an engineer and seeing his camera got my engineering mind working and I thought I could do that, so starting from the fact that Matts camera produced 4 170mm or 7inch long pictures from a 120 roll film and seeing how it came apart in 2 pieces I set about designing my own and drew it up in Autocad.

The basic drawings can be seen as the background to some of the pictures in my photo stream, the rest I made up as I went along and the camera evolved into the finished product going through a few changes as it went when things did not quite work as I expected.

I am an apprentice trained fitter tuner and I work as a service engineer for a pharmaceutical company, we have a small workshop with a manual lathe and mill. So working during my lunch hours each day on and off for the last 2 years I have finally made my own omniscope camera.
