Photography has always been a form of meditation and relaxation for me. It would not be wrong to think of this page as a visual journal, where I post a picture each day that captures something of my meditation for that day. Often I include a bit of narrative to contextualize the image, sometimes factual and other times philosophical (can't help it, I am an academic by training and profession). Along the way, over the decades, I have enjoyed creating images as a way to “get away” while keeping my focus. I currently live in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, with mountain ranges on all sides — north, south, east, and west – though for seven months (Oct 2024 - April 2025) I am resident at Santiniketan, West Bengal.

I've been doing photography intentionally since the early-70s, though I took my first pictures on my dad's Kodak camera in the late 60s. My first camera, meaning one I bought with my own money as a teenager in about 1978, was a Pentax MX, with two lenses (50 f1.7 and 80-200 f4.5). My primary gear these days is Olympus micro-four-thirds cameras and lenses (main bodies include an OM-1, E-M1.2, Pen-F and E-M5.2; main lenses default to the quadrinity of the 7-14, 12-40, 40-150, and 100-400, though I love getting out the primes, especially with the Pen-F). I also have kept, though, my Nikon analogue and digital cameras (a D850, D750 and D500, with an assortment of wonderful lenses). I still shoot film with Pentax and Nikon analogue cameras on a semi-regular basis. Because I have bought into the mantra of the best camera is the one with you there’s often a Sony RX100VA in my pocket, too.

In the end, it's about the images we create, not the gear. I would be hard -pressed to say what exactly is my favoured genre -- I tend to think of myself as rather opportunistic. I do enjoy landscape, and especially intimate forms of it, but when I scan my images over the years there's a lot of different subjects. If you find anything here that makes you smile, well, that's extra great... I wish for you health and wellness in 2024 and beyond!
