Hello!

I’m a hobbyist landscape and portrait photographer based in Sheffield, England.

I picked up my first serious camera about ten years ago, and haven’t looked back. Like most photographers these days I shoot digitally, and enjoy spending time capturing people and events as much as I do the landscapes of the Peak District that surround my home. Technical knowledge aside, they’re very different disciplines and this gives them very different appeals for me.

Landscape photography is about patience, persistence, and an opportunity to enjoy the solitude that the great outdoors provides. Portrait photography is much more immediate, requiring a need to think and adapt quickly, a skill for catching moments and personalities, and gives me the chance to meet some great new people.

The question I most commonly get asked about my photography is “Did you use Photoshop on that?” - The answer is always yes. We’re in a digital age and processing software is part of almost every photographer’s workflow these days. Sometimes I might just be brightening a shot up a bit, other times I might be recolouring or completely removing distracting objects from a shot (although it’s always better to keep an eye out for these things when you’re taking the shot if you can!). It depends on the shot, and the purpose of the shot. It’s about keeping the shots honest whilst making the best of what I’ve captured – and that means different things in different photos.
