My name is Henrique Oliveira Pires, and I live in Lisbon, Portugal.

I worked as a Phd Meteorologist and as a professor of Meteorology at the university. My fields of research were ocean waves and climate variability.

Now I am retired and so I have much more time to spend in my passion for bird photography.

I am interested in photography since I was a kid and learned the basics with my father, at a time when we had to choose and introduce by hand every camera setting.

Since we are together, almost 40 years ago, my wife Luisa and I have became a team in everything and also in the bird photography activities. Since then, her skills have much improved and, nowadays, she is a full rights photography partner. Indeed, she is the author of many of the photos that we show here. This Flickr account is maintained in my only name just for continuity reasons. Actually it should be Luisa & Henrique.

Now we use a Canon EOS 5D Mk IV, a Canon EOS 7D Mk II and a Canon EOS 90D. For bird photography we use a Canon 500 F 4.0 IS, sometimes with extenders 1.4x or 2x. We also use a Sigma 150-600 mm F 5.0-6.3 C, a Canon 100-400 mm F 4.0-5.6 IS zoom lens and a small Sigma 100-400 mm F 5.0-6.3 C. When we feel it is needed we use fill in flash. When possible we use Gitzo or Manfrotto tripods with Wimberley heads. We also use window mounts and, sometimes, a Manfrotto monopod.

Most of our bird photos are made using hides or our 4 wheel drive car as a hide.
