Notes toward a personal photographic manifesto:
1. Art is about offering an experience to an audience. Photography is Art when it either (a) documents an experience for those who weren't there, or (b) creates an experience nobody could otherwise have. 1(b) is my grounds for rejecting the Naturalists.
2. The primary subject should be as sharply focussed as possible. It's okay to let depth of field sometimes blur the background.
3. Never apologize for your equipment. Part of the satisfaction of Art is overcoming challenges. The masters of the past used equipment that couldn't do more than a fraction of what a modern TOY can, so don't let dreams of a better camera get in your way.

I'm a Canadian who lives in California.
I had a Brownie flash camera as a child, but didn't really get into photography until I got a digital camera in 1999.
These days, I mostly use a Canon Optura 40 DV cam, in still mode. I may be the only member of the DeAnza College Photography Club to have a shotgun mic as a camera accessory.
Some of the random photos that come up on the KFJC web page are ones I took.
