Catching and identifying odonates can be an exciting and highly rewarding pastime. At the same time, identifying odes can pose many interesting challenges. The photos in these galleries attempt to provide clear enough renditions to provide the viewer with enough detail to (hopefully) identify each ode to species. In addition, many species are illustrated multiple times to emphasize the wide range of variation in odonate morphology, and subsequently, many of the identification challenges within this insect group.

 

In 2012, I made a conscious effort to see and photograph as many tiger beetles as I could in the province of Ontario. So far, I've seen 10 of 16 described species. Should help to narrow the search next year...
