Thank you for looking at my flickr page. Now that I'm retired, I've found new interests. Foremost among them is centered around insect macro-photography, thanks to my life partner who introduced me to the world of incredibly diverse and fascinating tiny creatures all around us. This summer we created a large flower garden on our deck where we watch, enjoy, interact with, and photograph all manner of "critters" who come to visit day and night. I'm an amateur photographer at best, and I use a point-and-shoot camera because of its manageable size and ease of use. Our evenings are spent looking at the day's new offerings on the various forums. I love the Fred Miranda forum and the extremely talented people who post there. I've learned so much from them, from rescuing bees (thanks, Lord V!) to learning to identify many of the diverse variety of insects I see. I've discovered a whole new world that fulfills a deep longing in me to connect with nature in all its mystery, beauty, and wonder. I can't begin to describe the feeling I get from watching a jumping spider gaze back at me, from having bumblebees land on me to take a few moments to preen, from watching the antics of hoverflies defending their territories, from seeing spiderlings newly emerged for the first time, and so much more. I feel both reverence and respect for this world of tiny lives. I feel truly blessed to have been introduced to a world I might never have known. My life is ever so much richer for it!
My camera is a Canon Powershot SD960 IS, 12 megapixels, with a macro focusing range of 2-50 cm (0.8 in - 1.6 ft) at maximum wideangle.
