One River Project

“Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time?" That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere and that the present only exists for it, not the shadow of the past nor the shadow of the future.”

― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

I am not an archaeologist. This is purely a collection of things that perhaps have a story to give up. All found on a 3km stretch of river in County Kilkenny since around 2010. They may or may not be of any archaeological significance, that is beside the point. This is more art than archaeology, it's possibly 'artaeology'...

All the objects shown here were surface found (no digging, no metal detecting) collected from one river and mainly from gravel beaches and flood plains/inlets etc. All of the lithic finds have been shown to the NMI (National Museum of Ireland) and they have identified at least 9 worked lithics, which they are in possession of.

The pottery was not of significant interest though it has not been formally assessed yet, but there has been confirmation by a local archaeologist of at least a couple of medieval sherds.

Bone, metal, wood and glass are here alongside the lithics, pottery and together they form an interesting cross section through the layers of secrets that the river holds. Will we learn that secret from the river?
