In 1983 my father passed away. He had an old Canon FT QL, which at that time had a film of 36 exposures of which at least 30 were unexposed. I was only fourteen and my mother asked me if I would like to have the camera, since she already had a point and shoot Kodak. I agreed and started taking pictures, which was not very easy, since it was the first time I had to measure light, determine aperture opening and focus manually. Before that I was used to the ease of the Kodak Disc. Surprisingly I managed this and in the end it proved that I had taken some of the most amazing pictures with great bokeh (a phenomenon I had not heard of in 1983). The quality of my pictures improved gradually and I started reading books about techniques used in photography.
In 1986 I got my first order of covering a wedding of a cousin. Then thereafter more orders came and I started to like photography more and more. In 1997 I moved to Belgium to do my Doctorate in Medicine. I took my camera with me, but unfortunately as a consequence of the cold weather the mechanism got blocked and I was not able to use it anymore. I could not find anyone in Belgium who could repair the mechanism. With a small amount of money I was only able to purchase a point and shoot and again went for canon (Canon Sureshot 105 Zoom). I was very excited about the zoom property.
Then again, the digital time came and soon I bought some cheap point and shoot digital camera's, however, the quality was disappointing and not the least from the lack of good bokeh. In 2007 I purchased a canon powershot s5is, which delivered nice pictures, but the inability to change lenses made it less exciting. after three years it gave problems with the sensor and I only got pictures with white stripes through them. I was very disaappointed and went without a camera for at least one year.
Then in October 2011 I was at a conference in the Netherlands and I had borrowed a sony point and shoot camera (Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-WX9) from a friend. I was so excited about the features in such a small camera, that I bought one for myself. After I earned some more money I decided to go for the DSLR and obtained the Sony SLTK 58. It was a great improvement. In 2016 I sold it and purchased a ILCA 68. This is currently my best camera I have ever owned with a rather large collection of Sony and compatible A-mount zoom and prime lenses, like Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 , Sony 55-300mm F/4.5-5.6 DT, SAL85F28 85mm f/2.8, SAL35F18 35mm f/1.8, SAL30M28 30mm F/2.8, SAM 50mm f/1.8 DT, Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5, Opteka 500-1000mm f/8 and Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM. Needless to say I am very happy with these and enjoy photography in every day live. I am always looking forward to vacation, as that is the moment I take a lot of pictures.
