For almost 20 years I've worked with words as a journalist but now I'm taking my first tentative steps into the world of photography.

To call me an amateur photographer is an understatement. In November 2009 I bought my first 'proper' digital camera - a Canon EOS 450, I'm still trying to work out my apertures from my ISOs and my exposures from my filters.

These are my very first digital photographs. LightRoom and Photoshop are still huge and scary programs I've got to get to get to grips with, but with time and a lot of practise I hope that someday I'll be able to produce pictures as stunning as many that I see here on Flickr.

I'm in that early 'lovestruck' stage of photography where I want to capture everything and play about with every shot to try and see what can be done and what 'style' suits me best. Sometimes it might just work, often it won't. But I plan on posting my mistakes as well as my successes here as part of an honest record of my journey.
