Dear Dave DeMarco and all who have been following Fred on Flickr: It saddens greatly me to tell you that Fred passed away on April 11th, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a cancer diagnosis. He was 84. Here is a link to an obituary written by one of his family members: fredvansuchtelen.com/ He was first my student, then my classmate, finally my colleague in pottery and in the arts community here in Baldwin Park and Whittier, CA. He volunteered selflessly at the Whittier Art Gallery and at the Hillcrest Festival of Fine Arts in La Habra for more than 20 years. He was a close and devoted friend to me and to all our fellow artists and art lovers in our area. He will be missed tremendously. A Fred Van Suchtelen Memorial Award has been established at the Whittier Art Gallery to honor his memory.
