My first exposure to photography was at a very young age, watching my grandfather work in his small dark room at a corner of our ancestral house. It was magical to see him convert photo negatives into beautiful black and white prints. Over the years, I would hear my father and grandfather discuss aperture, metering, exposures for their photographs. It was both intriguing and interesting to me. On occasions I would help my dad shoot some family portraits using his Rolleiflex. It would give me such sense of pride. Over the next few years, life took front seat and I got busy making a place for myself in the world. I graduated with bachelors in electronics and telecommunication engineering and started working in Information Technology Industry.
Years went by and my job took me traveling around the world. On one such trip to Banff, Canada in late 2006, I stumbled upon something that can only be described as heaven on earth. The emerald blue Lake Louis is a true paradise on earth. I never experienced anything that beautiful in my life before. I tried to capture this beautiful experience on my small point and click camera hoping to take a piece of this amazing landscape back with me. But the limitations of my camera made it impossible to capture the beauty of that landscape. That very night I ordered my first DSLR. The day I received my DSLR, it was like being reunited with an old friend. The days when I helped my father shoot, his teachings, his passion that run in my veins, all came crashing back. It became my passion and since I have spent every spare minute of my life pursuing it. Finding beauty and experiencing life from the viewfinder, is an incredible feeling. The experience of seeing nature in all its grandeur and finding beauty in the mundane gives meaning to my life.
One of my favorite photography quotes that reflect a lot of my philosophy is by Ansel Adams -
"A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed."
My hope is to convey the spiritually uplifting value of nature’s beauty and charm through my photography.
