Occupied Stories is an affinity group working in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. It is edited and curated by a group of occupiers in New York City.

Mission

It is clearer now more than ever: the mainstream media will never be on the side of the 99%.

So many of the stories in the news are distorted by the media’s inherent bias for the status-quo that funds them. Over and over again, the voices of ‘official sources’ are allowed to dictate the narrative of the news, rather than those who are living it. We need a new media, and more than that we need to be more critical of how we consume media.

At Occupied Stories we acknowledge that no story is objective but rather a point of view, and that the truth is shared between many. We think an eyewitness is a better source than a PR spokesperson or spin doctor.

Our mission is to amplify the voices of the people who know the movement best—those who are living it.
