North-East England Born Amateur Photographer focusing on Landscapes, Architecture and Urban Scenes, I practice behind the lens in my off time from studying Architecture. My father's stories of working in a steel mill, and with the blast furnace of what was British Steel on the horizon along with countless warehouses and the detritus of a post-industrial northern town was the catalyst for an interest in the hidden beauty of abandoned and derelict spaces, and the romance of gritty, overcast, urban scenes. My primary concern however is with sublime landscapes, stemming from childhood holidays in the outdoors; long walks in forests and along exposed ridge-lines. My ambition is to capture, at least the essence of, that intangible feeling experienced when presented with a mountain, or the towering columns of Gothic ruins.

My studies in architecture distilled an appreciation for buildings and sculpture from antiquity to contemporary, using photography to explore ideas of scale, formal beauty and detailing. Seeing architecture through a photographer's eye allows one to analyse a street scene with respect to light and shadow, composition and facade treatment, as well as the narrative of those who inhabit it.
