"Art can be defined as beauty able to transcend the circumstances of its making."
--Jane Hirshfield, in "The Heart of Haiku"
My name is Michael Hobbs. I am a native North Carolinian and I have lived in Chapel Hill since 1987. I serve as director of communications at the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Along the twisting way I have found simple pleasures and deep rewards from work as a dishwasher, fried chicken cook, busboy at Asheville’s Grove Park Inn, forklift driver, ski lift operator, furniture mover, printing press operator, writer and editor and father. I've done that, and traveled to far and interesting places.
Often with a camera hanging from my shoulder.
