I’d like to broaden my understanding of visual language using an experimental approach. My work focuses on themes of feminism, beauty; but most importantly emotion and the state of mind. I like to combine these themes with the historical approaches of photography I have so far learnt, and I hope to widen my knowledge on this. I believe this course will offer me the opportunity to further my creativity, and develop my ideas into stronger concepts, with the hope of expanding my knowledge.
The images in my portfolio were chosen to display the range of photography I have previously practiced. The art of film photography has always captured my attention. Through learning on medium format and large format I have attempted to express my feelings through the image as well as emotionally involving the audience.
Work from my AS level studies, BTEC photography and recent work from the beginning of my second year were included in this portfolio. I also took this portfolio as an opportunity to include a number of images which I have taken for personal projects. I purposely chose captions which are directly related to the images below from a selection of inspirational song lyrics, sayings and quotes. I believe these captions inspired the photographs I took and the way in which they are edited; hopefully demonstrating the emotions i had throughout the developing process.
Personally, my favourite images are those of my family and close friends as these are more meaningful than those such as landscapes and objects. However, I am always passionate about shooting different mediums, as well as keeping my mind open to all areas of photography.
I am hoping to continue my studies at Brighton University as I feel I still have a lot more to learn about photographic practices and myself as a person, as this is important to help me grow into the photographer I hope to become.
