I am a London born visual artist, maker working with video, mixed media, painting, drawing and installation. My practice explores Afro-centrism and the concept of Black Britishness. As a black woman of dual heritage my work reference culture and identity, seeking to identify with my own Yoruba heritage and to comment on contemporary West African society in Britain, on the African Continent and in the wider African Diaspora. I make use of different mediums/media to emphasis the context of the work often employing textiles closely associated with contemporary and traditional West African costume. These textiles still widely worn hold strong cultural ties for societies living in the Diaspora.
In recent projects I worked with community groups to constructed installations of interactive textile costumes using techniques of hand and machine stitching, quilting, dying, printing and customising recycled fabrics.
