Photographica

I am darkest obscura,

light and lucida,

bitumen on pewter

waiting for sunlight.

I am silver and chalk,

exposed to the light,

iodine vapor,

mercury fumes.

I am latent image,

fixed in time,

fixed in frame,

both truth and lie.

I am daguerreotype,

Polaroid,

calotype negative,

autochrome, potato starch,

Kodachrome emulsion,

Agfa diffusion,

color confusion,

a positively transparent negative,

a CCD photon atom slapper.

But am I art?

Or am I just

“writing with light”

like God or Emerson?

“Is beauty the making one of opposites?”*

Obscura,

Lucida,

Photographica?

He's a breath of fresh air; genuine, kindhearted, communicative, intelligent and willing to leap to whatever heights -- taking on the dare his bright imagination holds out to him... I've enjoyed our dialogue & Stan's unique photos for years & this past year, with his innovative 365-selfy series, have been so pleased to discover his fanbase growing... He deserves that! I continue to look forward to see his latest projects (still can't wait to see his Raleigh gallery in-person)! Thanks for everything Stan-O -- you're a smile & then some.

I HAD to mark SCrocker as a contact and friend. Why? Well.... Stan occupies a unique niche in the Raleigh flickr group... in addition to his enthusiastic support and admiration for artists everywhere, he's a Fine visual and literary talent, always backed up with fully twinkling guileless mischief. He has a Great talent for fun that walks the line between outright debunking and simply sharing amusing possibilities. Even when he declines to take the big myths too seriously, he gets away clean, since he has no malice in his marrow.

Stan has taken an incrediable leap of faith, closing down a succesful lawnmower repair busines to achieve his dream, running an art gallery. It took him a year to make the transition but with a quaint space in down town Raleigh, he can now fulfill his desires. The art hanging at his gallery is fantastic. He has a great eye for what works and what doesn't. This translates into a good eye as a photographer.
