I figure I should probably come up with some sort of timeline that chronologically outlines the evolution of this obsession. It started a long, long time ago like I'm sure it did for many of us on here. 2007 when I joined Flickr was definitely not the start of the compulsion. That happened in the mid 80's. When I opened this account, I think I was mainly using 3 cameras: a beaten black Nikon F2, a Pentax 67, and a Bronica ETRS. My first dip in the medium format waters was with the Bronica and then I picked up a Pentax 67. Then the digital craze and I got my first dslr, a Nikon D80.
Well, here's how it all started:
1985: I took a basic black and white photography class in high school. I developed my first rolls of Tri-x and used the dark room. I went to local camera store and on the salesperson's recommendation (and probably my budget at the time) I picked up a Chinon CPX, a k- mount slr, with a Chinon 50mm F1.7. With the k- mount I could buy Pentax or Ricoh lenses, and used ones were a lot cheaper. I lusted over the Nikons in the display case, but they were out of my price range and league. I did it all with a 50mm lens at the time.
1986 -1987: I picked up a Tamron adaptall mount zoom 46A: 70-210 f3,8/4
1988-1991: At some point during those years, I picked up a Pentax K1000. I can't remember when. In 1991 in my last semester of college I took another photography/darkroom class. In June or July of 1991, I bought a Tamron adaptall 24mm F2.5. I headed for Mexico in July 1991 and took my gear in the hopes of working as a photographer, but that didn't happen. When in doubt, teach English! And I did that for 5 years and got fluent in Spanish-which was really the end goal anyway.
1991-1996; In Mexico and didn't do too much photography. Sadly, in 1996 I think, the Pentax K1000 and 24mm F2.5 were stolen out of my backpack at the university.
1997-2000: I had a Pentax af point and shoot.
2001-2006: My friend sells me his beater Nikon F2 and I start picking up manual focus Nikkor glass; 24mm. 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 135mm, 200mm. I was not going digital-yet!
2007: First dslr-Nikon D80 with slow kit lens that I hated so I started picking up Nikon af-d glass: 50mm, 85mm. Then a D300 for sports.
2008-2010: i added a D7000 and more film glass and finally got a D700-full frame. Later a D3!. More nikkor af-d glass: 35,-70, 80-200
2012: The micro 43s system began with the E-pm 1 mini pen and 2 kit zooms. a Lumix GM-1 . Then way too many primes!! 14, 17, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60 and 60 macro!!! At some point I picked up an Olympus EM-5 which died and then 2 Em-1 mark I's . And of course, an EM-1 mark ii some years later and a GH4-probably 2020 or so!
2014: I sold the D700 and got a D750 with the grip and 24-70 and 70-200 F2,8-which i stopped using because they were too heavy to carry and used my EM-1's!! The D750 was only for indoor sports.
2016: The Fuji obsession started with an XE-1 and the 18-135 zoom and the 35 prime. Then came the XT-1.
2017-2024: The Leica Q showed up in 2019 or 2020 I think, Then 2 old Olympus E-PL3's. A Fuji XT-3 and more Fuji glass;. 14, 23, 56- 2 viltrox lenses-23 and 75!!!! It's pure insanity to buy into so many systems, but it's like they are all my children!! Ha,ha! It's really nuts. Maybe others on here can identify with me? I'm leaving out Holgas, other plastic cameras, a 6x9 folder, way too many Bronica and Pentax 67 lenses too! Oh, 2 more silver Nikon F2''s, 2 n90's and a n90s. I think i need to join a support group or maybe start one!!
Most of what I have posted on here was taken using micro43s cams. Otherwise, the pics are from film cams or a couple from the Leica Q. I keep saying I need to take the Q out more and i never do, but you know I can't part with it!! Well, enough of my ranting or am i having a catharsis here? I'd appreciate any input or feedback on any of my images: composition, exposure, post processing, etc.
Thanks to everyone.
