We were a couple, 'Bluebear' (Jeff) and 'Lani' (Loraine). We were much taken with each other. Senior citizens who met and fell in love on-line in 1996 and married on January 8th, 1997. We lived in Monterey California, Jeff's home, after we were married until November of 2005 when we moved back to Canada, my home, and after 18 months renting a cabin on Denman Island we finally purchased our 'forever' home in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

 

We've since developed some significant disabilities - Brain damage for me from surgery to remove a brain tumour and Jeff's coping with chemo brain and his cancer has metastasized into his lungs but remains small - so far so good -- so we do what we can and find ways to take a few photos around the house and yard and occasionally near our friends, Mike & Tanja's home in Royston.

 

As of Jan 14th 2015 we were told that Jeff's lung cancer nodules have grown significantly - prognosis isn't good - we're still adjusting to this news and opting for some complimentary treatments since they stopped the chemo 9 months ago because it wasn't doing anything good and it was doing a lot of harm.

 

Sadly Jeff died in my arms on October 2, 2016 after a 4 year battle with cancer. He spent the last 3 months of his life in hospital where he was well cared for and his last 4 days in the new local Hospice. An amazing place with nurses who are angels with hidden wings.

 

We both loved puns. One of our favourite puns happens in "Master and Commander" (movie) when the Captain pushes the Doctor to choose between the two weevils on his plate and when he chooses the one with greater length and breadth the Captain says: "I have you, you're completely dished. Don't you know that in the Service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils?"

 

Some of our heroes include Mahatma Gandhi, Rumi, Tagore, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, The Dalai Lama and everyone who tries to live at peace with themselves and others and treats Mother Earth with respect.

 

We both loved being here at Flickr and seeing so many amazing photos. We each take a few photos and we finally decided to have just one Photostream that we share as we do everything else. I, Lani, tend to make most of the comments at other people's photos.
