Also a: visual artist with a extensive study in contemporary, modern, postmodern art, art theory, and sculpture conducted in Paris and Nantes, France. Amateur photographer and dancer with a former background in gymnastics.

 

Claudia has twelve years of professional experience working as a speaker, activist, and scholar on antiviolence and antiracism issues. She was educated in the departments of Philosophy and Women and Gender studies at DePaul University, and in art and art theory in Paris. Awarded a Teaching Assistantship Grant to Nantes, France in 2006, she worked as an English instructor and as a public relations intern for Le Lieu Unique's Estuaire 2007 Project. She has also lived in Germany, Mexico, and spent extensive time in Tunisia before the uprising. In 2008, Claudia was chosen as Amnesty International's "Stop the Violence Against Women" campaign coordinator for the Midwest. She currently works as the media and research coordinator for the Chicago Taskforce on Violence Against Girls and Young Women where she is developing a Media Toolkit for journalists to better cover the issue of sexual violence. Claudia also serves as editor of AREA Chicago, is a contributing writer and photographer for Gozamos, and a Chicago WAM! organizer. A guest commentator on Vocalo's The Morning AMp! and the Barber Shop Show, she provides cultural criticism on issues relating to race, gender and sexuality. Recently designated an alternate for a Fulbright Fellowship to Morocco, Claudia hopes to continue pursuing her interests in gender, culture and media abroad.
