Jonathan Carmichael has been working professionally as a commercial, event and fine art photographer for many years. The body of work presented here draws on his more creative and experimental collections.

Jonathan’s fine art photography generally focuses on low light and portrait photography, commonly taking in more abandoned and secluded landscapes presenting them with a clinical darkness and searching for subjects with a fusion of urban decay and Australian landscape. Jonathan’s night photographs also ask us to question the darkness that lies deep within in ourselves. Like his long exposures, if we all look deeply and long enough, in time a beauty will emerge also.

Jonathan gained his BA from Monash University in 1998, and is currently studying at PSC (Photographic Studies College). If there is a theme to his work it would be a space where technological development has come to a point of decline where the environment has initiated to reclaim its space once again.
