The Greeks told the story of the minotaur, the bull-headed flesh-eating man who lived in the center of the labyrinth. He was a threatening beast, and yet his name was Asterion-Star. It is a beast, this thing that stirs in the core of our being, but it is also the star of our innermost nature. We have to care for this suffering with extreme reverence so that, in our fear and anger at the beast, we do not overlook the star.

... And the sages of the subway sit just like the living dead, as the tracks clack out the rhythm, their eyes fixed straight ahead.

They ride the line of balance and hold on by just a thread. But it's too hot in these tunnels, you can hit up by the heat.

You get up to get out at your next stop, but they push you back in your seat.

Your heart starts beatin' faster as you struggle to your feet.

Then you're outta that hole back up on the street.

And them southside sisters sure look pretty.
