Do photography mostly for a bit of fun and to help remember people, places, and times the way they were.
First started taking photo's back in the mid 70's and into the early 80's while sailing round half the world with the R.N. (mostly round the half that was at war!). Gave up photography when I left the navy mainly due to the expense of using film and other pressures of time. Got back into it again when the quality of digital became quite reasonable and at last also had some new-found spare time.
Still mostly a novice, have no problem with the technical aspect but definately challenged with regards to the artistic side of things.
Also enjoy a bit of dinghy sailing in the summer (i.e. only when the weather is nice!), a bit of stargazing, and occasionally have to earn a living as an electronics and software design engineer.

I've enjoyed seeing Alan's photography develop from the early days on the far side at the Myfuji site to the present time here on Flickr. He is very versatile in subject matter, producing good quality shots of many styles. My all time favourite image is almost iconic:- flickr.com/photos... This is a close contender for favourite, showing a more gentle element of his personality:- flickr.com/photos... I always enjoy a visit to his photostream. Alan has proven to be a very helpful and loyal Flickr friend. Thanks Alan.
