I am from New York State. I graduated from University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies in 2003 with a MA degree in Chinese Studies, the focus of which was modern anthropology of China and Mandarin Language. In the 1990s I taught first in the United States, and later spent five years teaching English to school aged kids in Tainan, Taiwan. I have a Bachelors Degree from New Paltz College, where I majored in sociology and minored in anthropology. My upper division coursework was with Professor Irwin Sperber. I also earned 14 credits in Woman Studies.
