2010.03.15 Update: I'm back again. I bought a new (for me) Canon EOS 1D Mark III, and I'm excited about photography again.

2009.02.02 Update: I really went inactive for much of 2008, but I'm back now. I bought a MacBook Pro in december, and it is making the experience of photo editing so much more pleasant than working on my five-year-old PowerBook G4 was. When I work in aperture, and Photoshop, the sliders and previews work in real-time, rather than jerky lag time.

2008.03.10 Update: Didn't do much posting between the Northern California trip last spring, the Middle East trip this year. Still crawling along with my old PowerBook G4 and Aperture, which is not an ideal combo. I finally broke down and bought a FW800 external to store my photos on, so at least I have the drive space to get working again.

2006.09.10 Update: I took a couple of months off from Flickr, but I'm back, and will begin uploading from my backlog of photos.

2006.04.03 Update: I purchased a Pantone Eye-One Display 2 color calibrator, and have started updating my monitors. This is turning out to be an educational process, and I believe that two of my display's had been too bright. I suspected as much, which was the motivation to purchase the Eye-One. I hope my latest are better.

My name is David, and I am a Flickr addict.

I have slowly gotten back into photography after ten years off (1995-2004). The ability to take pictures without the cost of film and processing, as well as being able to see the images in the camera drew me back.

I learned photography in high school, and was very active in college. After graduation, I worked as a professional photographer for five years, doing mostly news, sports, and magazine editorial assignments.

The work I have posted so far has very minimal post processing. One day I hope to master Photoshop to the point that I can do to my digital images what I could do in a wet darkroom.

My first digital camera was an Olympus e10, which I purchased in early 2003. I upgraded to a Canon EOS 10D the next year, and have been pretty satisfied with it. When I can afford to, I would like to upgrade to the new Canon EOS 5D, to take advantage of its full-frame sensor, so lenses will perform the way I am used to from shooting 35mm film cameras.

When I shot film, my favorite lenses were a 24mm f/2.0, 85mm f/1.8, and 300mm f/2.8L.

For my 10D, I had to make some compromises, limited by appropriate lenses for the 1.6x sensor size, as well as my budget, since this is now a hobby rather than a profession. My primary lens is now a 16-35mm f/2.8L, though I also have a 50mm f/1.4 and 70-200mm f/4.0L.
