Forgotten Slideshow Project
Drag to set position!
Welcome to the Forgotten Slide Project! This project began by an acquisition. I got a call from my brother one day to ask if I was interested in some old 35 mm slides. He was at an estate sell and had found two boxes of these slides. He estimated that there was over a thousand of these and many looked like they were from the 1940's. All marked Kodachrome on the slide sleeve.
Well he bought him and shipped them to me and I decided to launch this project. I believe the photographer's name is Virginia. I am not sure of her last name yet. Ironically, the boxes were marked "Slides found at estate sale". This led us to believe they were purchased once before!
Most of these slides are in very good condition, but there are some that need cleaning beyond my capabilities. I will try to clean them the best I can prior to scanning. Shooting Kodachrome film in the 1940's would have been an expensive proposition. At that time only Kodak could process the film. I believe a roll of Kodachrome cost $5.00 but that included the processing. Still, a large sum in the 40's.
I estimate there are at least 2000 slides in these boxes, all by the same photographer. As you will see, she traveled extensively. I will do my best to designate a location when possible. Also, none of these slides are dated. I can only give the decade the photograph was made. I am able to determine this by the type of slide holder it is mounted in.
Well, come along and take this journey with me. We will see through the eyes of this forgotten photographer, her life, her memories.
