I have been interested in photography since I was ten years old, and have owned more than two dozen cameras (film, digital and video). I remember the time when I routinely brought three cameras (for prints, slides and video) on my trips. I started doing digital photography in 2001. Many of my interesting shots were taken with 35mm-negatives before then.

I have lived in Vancouver for 44 years. I retired from clinical practice and teaching two years ago. Now I mainly use two cameras – a Nikon D300 and a compact Leica D-Lux 3.

I like photography related to travel, animals and people. I am most interested in photographing people. More than half of my photos are portraits, people engaged in day-to-day activities, or children at play. I have been told one needs consent before displaying them in a public forum.

Having followed the BC birders’ Flickr posting for a couple of years, I recently started bird watching. I find bird photography very challenging, and I have a lot to learn.

I believe photography is a medium for documenting what the eyes see. Except for minor cropping, I do not manipulate my photos. I do know how Photoshop can improve an image, and I have taken courses in digital manipulation. I guess it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
