December 16th, 2015 My Mom passed away two-weeks ago, and I am shattered. The Nikon EM camera I mention in my first profile update, way down below, had been my Mom's. She had shared one of her passions and gotten me into photography, and had been my most trusted critic. This past year has been a blur... She had been sick for quite some time... and I had not taken many photos this year at all as a result. I am trying to come back at it, but am struggling... Learning to See Again.

It does not feel like Christmastime. It does not feel like New Year's.

December 28th, 2014 So, with only a few days left to this year, I figured it was time for an update... It's been slow-going on the photography front the last 6-months or so... Things have just been out of sorts, with sick family, and re-shuffled priorities. Pear-shaped and sideways, which is a shame, but I have hopes that next year I'll have more time to be reinvigorated and reinvested in photography. I think if I have one resolution beyond getting out more to photograph in the New Year, it is to photograph new places, and new sorts of things, and perhaps people (shudder to think).

New Year, new possibilities.

This place serves as inspiration to me, and so if I add, comment, or favorite you, it's because something(s) in your photostream struck me as cool, or powerful, or different, or something(s) else. Please don't feel obliged to reciprocate.

July 6th, 2014 Passed through 35,000 views yesterday. Summer has been great so far.

June 23rd, 2014 - Sneaking up on 35k views.... But more importantly, the fine folks at Flickr updated the UI today for the better... A melding of the best aspects of the old Flickr with the new Flickr... A current and contemporary UI more-tailored towards true photography. Thank you Flickr!

May 25th, 2014 - A pic of Doodle the cat, sitting on two books on a hearth, made Explore today and pushed me over 30,000 views... It's always a nice bump to one's motivation to make Explore, even if the science behind what makes an image "Explore-worthy" isn't entirely clear.

On a separate note, having had time to continue considering the "improvements" made to Flickr last year, I come to the conclusion that the changes are objectively bad. It's not a matter of my not liking a new interface... In fact, just recently connect.garmin.com, a fitness site I use more than flickr.com, totally changed its user interface emulating new-wave web elements. I actually like the new connect.garmin.com interface more than the old one... No hand clenching over the new Garmin site. The flickr changes continue to strike me as just not right. The images on flickr no longer have space to breath... they are just presented in a jumbled mess.

March 13th, 2014 - 25,000 views... I guess I am back... Or at least splitting time with Ipernity.

August 6th, 2013 - Patience exhausted, I have left for ipternity.com:

www.ipernity.com/home/348307

I really wanted to like the new flickr, but I could never get adjusted to it... As a user interface for me, it just feels wrong. This seems to be the case with many others. The straw that broke the camels back was the stats fiasco.... No hard feelings flickr; corporations and humans are both empowered with the ability to change as they see fit to thrive.

Stats figure as of today = 13,130 views, however given the stats issue the past week, who knows how many of these are real views.

June 2013 Update- Summer's here! 11,500 views...

April 2013 Update- Oddly it took several months for for me to really realize just how much Hurricane Sandy changed things in the area. Things are returning to normal, but it is amazing just how many places I used to photograph are fundamentally different. Fallen trees everywhere, boats (still) where they shouldn't be, things just gone. Sandy Hook, NJ, my favorite location for shooting, is still closed. Hopefully with summer coming (and all the $$$'s which that means to local businesses) recovery accelerate.

April 7th, 2013 - 10,000 all-time views

November 25th, 2012 - The days are so short!!!! But, Christmas is here soon, with all the lights and beauty to be captured. 8,275 views to date.

September 10th, 2012 - Wow... Summer is gone. And I've not taken a photo I am pleased with in over a month. :0/ Need to get out and explore more new locations, etc. Grown stale with the same old same old.

July 2012 Update -Spring is gone, and summer has arrived full-force. It has been incredibly hot here in New Jersey, USA. Many an afternoon/evening spent out shooting and sweating. After some long deliberation, I abandoned my daily picture project after about 6-months. Coming up with an original idea everyday was sometimes adding a bit of pressure to my day (usually in the evening after long work days), and since this photo stuff shouldn't be stressing me, I decided to hit the pause button on daily pictures. Not regretting that move. Otherwise, things are rolling along nicely. Must say I am looking forward to the fall, and beautiful colors (and cooler temperatures)....

April 2012 Update: At long last, spring is here! Finally, longer (and warmer) days have come -Yay! This past Monday one of my photos was Explored, and while I understand this doesn't really mean much, I was nonetheless really surprised, and frankly very happy, to see one of my pictures grouped along side 499 other photos for that day... Even if the reason it was there was due, in some part, to software code that measures "interestingness".

Flickr-awe has still not worn off - I continue to be absolutely floored and amazed by the images I see here - the world seems both smaller and more magnificent as I spend more time here.

January 7th, 2012 - 1,000 all-time views

December 2011 Update: So, I've been exploring and posting to Flickr for about a month, and have to say I am both daunted and in awe of the amazing photos I see here every day. It's inspiring to think that ordinary people are taking these extraordinary shots. My journeying through Flickr, and seeing how creatively people capture this world in photos, has really caused me to think about how I approach photography, from subject matter, composition, lighting, focus... Now if the day were only a wee bit longer! (Heart of Winter)

September 30th, 2011

Hello,

I'm new to Photography as of November 2010. Actually, that's not exactly true. When I was a kid I used to take many photos with a Nikon EM film camera. Somewhere around 1995 I retired the EM and stopped taking photos. Not entirely sure why. I'm also not entirely sure why fifteen years later, in the fall of 2010, I went ahead and bought a new Nikon and started taking photos again.

But here I am.

And here they are.

I don't claim to be any good at this; this is just fun for me. If you like what you see, or you have any suggestions or criticisms, I welcome your comments and hearing from you.

Happy photographing...
