Higher Ground Learning
Drag to set position!
Higher Ground Learning traces its beginnings to 1996, when it first put down roots at the historic Oquirrh School. Initially conceived to help students balance academics with fine arts, Higher Ground soon became an environment where students who were struggling-or who simply wanted a supplement to their school courses- could develop a one-on-one relationship with a high-caliber tutor or mentor.
With a core staff of four educators, Higher Ground served ten to twenty students a month. One and a half years later, Higher Ground Learning's space could no longer accommodate its growing clientele. In response, Higher Ground moved to it's second location- the Carpenter Building in Salt Lake City's Gateway Design District.
Now we have settled into our new space, located on the West end of historic Pierpont Avenue. Higher Ground Learning's diverse teaching staff has expanded and we currently provide our trademark individualized tutoring, creative workshops, and test preparation services to over one hundred students each month.
Along with the expansion of our student body, we at Higher Ground have expanded the scope of our educational contacts. Now enjoying new partnerships with the University of Utah; the Oakley School; the Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science (AMES); Youth Network; and Youth City, Higher Ground Learning is successfully working in the community and providing needed services to more and more children.
In addition to constantly evolving its creative and academic programs, Higher Ground Learning has also extended its test preparation services to an international student body. In 1997, Higher Ground Learning took its extremely successful SAT preparation program to Lugano, Switzerland. International exposure continued in 1999 when HGL instructors went to teach at The American School in Moscow. This has led to over a decade of successful international programming, including programs in Johannesburg, Caracas, and Moscow. Our most recent program was in April of 2008 at the Amman Baccalaureate School in Amman, Jordan.
With the consistent effort and dedication of our staff and students, Higher Ground Learning looks forward to continued success as Salt Lake City's premier creative educational center. As we seek new educational tools, experiences, and communities, Higher Ground Learning promises to continue supplementing the creative educational resources of the Wasatch Front and beyond.
