A dedicated plant nut and avid plant photographer (usually taken on the run with an armload of plant material).

"If you know how it grows, then you know how to grow it"

Collecting plants in North Queensland, the Phillipines, Sabah, Chile, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Costa Rica as well as being responsible for plant collections at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney during the 1970's and 1980's has lead to possessing a substantial collection of plant slides (named and in situ) that I am now endeavouring to digitize. BIG job!

Most of my images were originally taken with a Nikon F3 partnered with a Nikkor 105mm macro, that camera lasted faithfully from 1982 until it died in 2003 in (under) a Yucatan lagoon admiring flamingoes with my beautiful wife, Carmen, on our honeymoon.

My part time teaching job at TAFE usually involves plant ID.

I now have a Canon EOS400D with the basic little zoom. I yearn for a good, long macro and an off camera flash.

In the meantime I have acquired a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone with its 8 megapixel camera. As it is always with me, it has taken over when a "target of opportunity" presents itself.

In October 2012, with a little of my separation funds, I purchased the following retirement indulgence.

Canon EOS 7D Kit EF-S 18-200mm IS Lens Digital SLR

- 18 megapixel, 8fps (grandkids sport), lots of features including being able to run a wireless off-camera flash.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM

- the favourite lens in my Nikon system was the 105 mm macro. I prefer the extra working distance.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

- a very wide angle zoom esp. good for closed forest shots.

- I had a Nikkor 20 mm that was especially good at making magic trees

Canon Flash Speedlite 600 EX-RT

- powerful and wireless - and can be used in various ratios with the on-camera flash.

Canon Angle finder C

- again my old Nikon F3 had a removable viewfinder and I attached a DW-4 6x Magnifying Finder for using at ground level. Great for terrestral orchids and the like. This should substitute nicely.

Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner (not in the picture but should make scanning my still massive slide collection easier) - a flatbed scanner that does 12 slides at a time.

Carmen and I love to cook - real, slow food (vegetarian) - favourites being Mediterranean/Middle Eastern, Mexican (fell in love with the smell of fresh tortilla’s on our honeymoon) and I like to make fun theme cakes and biscuits for the family. Explains the food pics.
