“I may steal your diamonds, but I am really not bad, just written that way”

"If there is a book you want to read, but it has not been written yet, then you must write it!"

American Author T. Morrison

I am Welsh born, with a small bit of ancestral German for colour.

Chatwick University is patterned after an actual college, though not the one I attended. I use it as a prop for the “Research’ that has gone into me story telling , a springboard for how my characters and their antics were uncovered.

I enjoy writing and making plots work. Than adapting renderings/picts that fit in with the stories’ line, using various props and resources. Especially over a pint, or a sniffer of home made brandy .

I will admit that I am rather narrow in my selection of subjects that I have written about, but I enjoy it, and it is the reason this stream was created.

Native son JRR Tolkien Wrote his stories in a fantasy vein because he felt there were not enough British tales with that element, and I guess that is what started me writing on the subjects represented under Chatwick Harpax.

Also like Tolkien, The stories are open ended, so that if someone wanted to use the same characters in a new story, or extend an already established story that I have written, or perhaps make a rendering/picture based on one of my stories, that in itself would be praise, and most welcomed.

That said, this is probably a bit more info than you may care to hear about, but I appreciate the opportunity to say it.

A bit about me writings:

Highwaymen have always intrigued me since I can remember, maybe I was even one in a before life?

Poet and Peasant pub, which appears in a few of my tales, is a brick and mortar Welsh pub, that carries the latest name in a long series of taverns that have long occupied the spot ( and as I am jotting this the grinning stogie chomping skull of Erick is above me, a full pint sits before me, a gently pestering mate on the stool next to me, READING over my shoulder!).

Someone once made mention in a comment:

“There is a certain moral justice weaved and intertwined within your tales…”

And I suppose there is, but then again, after three years spent within the confines of a Catholic Seminary, there was bound to be a fall not too far from that rather overshadowing tree!

A Second Someone once asked me in a comment:

There is an undercurrent or maybe an undertow! of eroticism in your role play stories. lol and I wonder if they are actual events!

I will sheepishly admit that the chronicle related stories all have seeds of actual occurrences for me( and me much prettier better half), fuelled by desires whose roots remain a mystery to me , but a source of fun for us never the less.

Most of my other tales are fictions from my own imagination, some fuelled from the chronicles, others by what I have read or seen.

However, a few of the later Angie series are based from what a flicker member wrote to me in a series of comments.

This was after she had read the first couple of Angie tales. She claimed to have been a pickpocket herself a long time ago and told me a few of her experiences. And whether or not her stories were real, I will never know, but the tales were quite eye opening. That was a couple of years ago. She did grant me permission to use her “tips”, and I have given her nods at the end of those stories which I did.

So, as you see, I am always open to Questions, suggestions, Ideas, and civilised conversation on my topics.

And there you have it…

Cheers ;)

Long, long overdue…these few words of testimony and appreciation for Chatwick Harpax, man of compelling tales, beautiful words and dito imagery. Man, also, of modesty, civilness and generosity. Man of unbridled energy when it comes to his many groups on Flickr; few put in the work Chatwick does in order to keep things running nicely and smoothly. Which sometimes is simply undoable… We go back a long time, Chatwick and me and I have come to know him as a wise, talented and honorable friend. Thank you, Chatwick Harpax, friend and raconteur par excellence, for inducing me to write that last line especially. Oh and ehh….lay off the diamonds, willyah?

Chatwick Harpax thank you very much for your comment to me, I see that you see beyond what many people can do, you are very observant and I love it, and of course ... as you will not be obrservator if I just discovered that you write, you know translate on paper, everything you see, feel, and breathe .. and it envelops you, it is a gift to be able to transmit through your fingers (and I visualize you), I think also through the gestures that are sure to accompany you. You surprised me with your comment and generosity in your words, I did not expect anything like that, sometimes you think that these things do not happen, but yes, to me yes, it happened to me because there was Chatwick looking at me closely and I unknowingly .. . From now on I will try to put some jewel for you Thank you very much again, it has made me feel very good and helps me to continue in the moments that my real life leaves me free Greetings Mr. Harpax

When I think of Chatwick Harpax and how I would describe him two words come to mind, well three I suppose, a gentleman thief. :) If you look the definition up you will see it describes a charismatic gentleman thief who is most often wealthy. Mr. Harpax is very well spoken, kind, charming, has impecable manners and avoids the use of force and threats, he has no need for such things. :) It is my opinion that any jewels he takes would be for the thrill of it and not for the wealth. :) And since the targets are generally wealthy can we not overlook these minor indiscretions. Besides he shared his company and I am quite sure the lady loved every moment of it before she gave up those jewels. :) Okay, I admit this is the character I choose to think of when I see his name. In real Flickr fashion this is a man who is very supportive and complimentary. He has always given me and many more support and because I do hold him in such high regards it is very fulfilling to receive his comments. He is always wonderful in his own writings and images he creates, they so perfectly with the stories. I do enjoy his creativity. It was his works that got me so interested in this flickr genre. So, thank you Chatwick. I think you are truly amazing. :)

Chatwick is a most talented artist who really has a way with words, reeling the reader in with his incredible eye for detail while making one feel as if one were right smack in the middle of all of the action! His writing is seemingly effortless and sparkles with as much life as the eye candy in his jewelry heist tales does. The beautiful and often mysterious images perfectly complement his prose. Chatwick's storytelling is very stylish and tantalizing, with many an unexpected twist and turn. He also has a real knack for making one root for the dashing main characters, even if they are not necessarily on the up and up. But most importantly of all, Chatwick is one of the most generous people I have met on Flickr. He is incredibly supportive of the work of others and always takes the time to give very thoughtful, insightful and kind feedback.

Excerpt for correspondence.... Let there be light, My Good Sir, Such as it is in a world post Edison and Tesla that we expect to be instantly illuminated when we merely think it should be so. However, while perhaps I feel illuminated, I have continued to stumble in the dark (perhaps it tis my three drinks to your starting the first). Thus when light does begin to appear thru a crack in some facade, it slowly grows from darkness to an expanding dawn. So it has been with words and stories and creative endeavors. Sir I had admired the crafted pictures in your photostream and had scrolled down many. Many a stage was set both with an eye to material vulnerability as well as physical (and emotional?). The creator of all these visions clearly has a message to deliver it seems. Ah, but there is this problem of being Obtuse. Sir, I have even read your profile, not once but several times, to better have illumination of the good man to whom this correspondence is addressed. Still in my darkness I found references to writings that reflect many desires and passions, perhaps real, perhaps fantasy, or perhaps a rich blend from a creative and living mind. But Sir, I am the subject of Obtuse. It is I who has been stumbling in the dark. Thus when I began to examine the photos in more detail the light shown through this crack, through this crack of a door, through this door that was then flung open. Ah, now I better understand and admire. So Sir, I bow to you on so many levels. Clearly you are a prodigious author of many thoughts and stories and dreams (wishes and desires?). These thoughts, stories, and desires will be savored as appropriate readings. Each to be enjoyed without hurry to the next. The other item Sir, is that as a man of your heritage, you celebrate much about where you have called home as well as connections to your past. Many fail to see the richness of this. It isn't just to honor the road traveled but to realize that to some degree, to quote a malaligned author, “we are our history”. Thus you seem to celebrate this in life. It isn't that you seem to be broadcasting it but rather you have this weave of fabric in the creation of these worlds that reflect this road traveled in your history. Cheers Sir on this accomplishment. So there is light on this side of the pond, dim but growing. Let there be light ..... Stephen

Each picture is a story unto itself and each picture is a part of a story written with a touch of dark humour reminiscent of a Dashiell Hammett or a Spillane. The ghost of Bogie hovers over nightclub and alleyway,- and occasionally Bram Stoker or Poe. The stuff of delicious and atmospheric decadence- and film noir!
