I am a retired Caterpillar employee following my original love for astronomy that started in 1957 when Sputnik was launched and then progressed to astrophotography in 1960 when my parents bought me my first Pentax 35mm SLR. Now I find I have a lot more time on my hands to pursue this hobby and travel to dark sky sites searching for the lowest light pollution possible in which to image. Since I cannot move to the Atacama desert in Chile, I have to restrict my search to locations in the US. So far, southwest NM seems to offer really dark skies and conditions for imaging more nights out of the year than I can do from my Illinois home.
