I have loved taking photographs since I can remember. I was given a Nikon Coopix P80 for Christmas back in 2008 which I loved, compared to my average point and shoot Kodak that I had been using previously. The Coolpix joined me on many holidays and outings, it fit perfectly into my handbag (something I miss), it was a good friend, but unfortunately it just wasnt giving me the clarity that I was missing.
After being envious of the wedding photographer at my Sister's March 2011 wedding, I decided I was going to do whatever it took to get into a job I would enjoy, that did not entail being sat behind a desk all day crunching numbers and meeting very few people.
I treated myself to a Nikon 5100 and a couple of lenses, enrolled on a beginners course to DSLR and now there is no stopping me! My aim is to make money from my photos one day but right now I am working on a portfolio to build my own website. My aim is to take PR/commercial photography and wedding/portrait photos. Practice, combined with my good eye and ability to talk to people, I hope will help me along the way!
I have taken commercial photos for my current employer of office and industrial units that we have developed, and have also been working for Leeds Rocks, an events company, photographing singers, bands and fashion. This has given me the opportunity to speak to professional photographers and pick up tips along the way. I do often wonder where all the female photographers are? An advantage for me?
My Flickr account is pretty new and shows a few of my recent pics on the Nikon 5100, plus some from my monthly Leeds Photohunt group (more for fun than for taking great photos I must add!)
