I am a researcher/epidemiologist, social worker, and educator. I am an artist who tends to neglects her pencils, paints & collage materials. I take photos to document place, social phenomena, and people--their hard work, cultures, relationships, souls. I am a loving friend and daughter and sister and I am soon to marry a beautiful photographer named Oscar Avellaneda. I love Alaska the way John Denver loves West Virginia. I write, I make mix CDs. I am an athlete and an academic. My most important and persistest passion in life is to reduce sexual and other forms of gendered and personal violence, and to change the gender norms and social structures that perpetuate sexual violence and racial inequality. And also to have a family of my own with Oscar.
