RESOLVE is a Washington, DC based non-profit organization and was originally formed in 1977. In the early 1980's RESOLVE became part of The Conservation Foundation, a distinguished research-based organization. From the late 1980s until 1994, RESOLVE was an independent program at the World Wildlife Fund after The Conservation Foundation joined the World Wildlife Fund. In January 1994, RESOLVE with assistance from the World Wildlife Fund became an independent, autonomous non-profit organization.

Since its founding, RESOLVE has been promoting the effective use of consensus building in public decisions and helping diverse interests engage in dialogue, collaborative decision making and action.
