I was born in Grimsby February 1931 and at an early age, 5 or 6 was visiting Grimsby Corporation Tramway Depot with my father who worked there as a Fitter and Turner for about 10 years until his retirement in December 1937.

I well remember riding on the Trams and I also remember watching from my Uncle's upper rooms at Strand House Park Street as the tracks were being lifted in Cleethorpes Road. When visiting Strand House when I was 7 or 8 my Uncle took me into the Strand Cinema where he was Caretaker and showing me round the non-viewing areas which included under the Cinema's sloping wooden floor where there were Tram tracks from when the site was a Horse Tram Depot.

On 1st September 1946 when I was 15, my real association with Grimsby Corporation Transport really began when after ending my Schooling at Grimsby Junior Technical School, I started work at G.G.T., an arrangment having been made some months before with Mr Stride Rolling Stock Engineer and Mr H.R Snow Manager.

When I was 16 my apprenticeship as Fitter and Turner started, my pay being £1 & 2 shillings (old money) a week.

In February 1952 I left to serve my Army National Service with Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, mainly 6 Command Workshops REME at Colchester Essex and various out stations.

I returned to G.C.T in February 1954 leaving as Depot Foreman when the fleet totalled 104 vehicles in April 1964 to take up a post with The Ministry of Transport, East Midlands Traffic Area at Banbury, Oxfordshire, where I still reside.

In August 1976 I left the M.O.T in a planned long term move to Heyfordian Travel Ltd, Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire as Fleet Engineer, but the plan was not a success and I left after almost one year.

In September 1977 I moved to Adkins Coaches Upper Boddington, near Daventry, Northamptonshire as Fleet Engineer to the 24 vehicle operation.

In May 1988 I joined Jeffs Coaches of Helmdon, near Brackley, Northamptonshire, as Fleet Engineer. The group at the time included, Basford Coaches Ltd, Greens Norton, near Towester, Northamptonshire. Paynes Coaches Ltd, Buckingham. Silverline Coaches Ltd, Middleton Cheney, near Banbury, Oxfordshire. Percivals Coaches of Oxford and Windrush Valley Travel Ltd of Witney, Oxfordshire. At their peak about 1999 Jeffs Coaches was a 100 vehicle operation.

I retired aged 72 from Jeffs in January 2003 having been diagnosed as having severe Angina during the medical examination for the renewal of my P.S.V Divers Licence. I had held a P.S.V Licence for almost 48 years from May 5th 1955.

My badge number was slightly unusual being EE27772, issued by East Midlands Traffic Area Nottingham.

In May 2003 I had heart bypass surgery and at present reasonably healthy almost 81 year old, carer to my wonder full wife who is also almost 81 years old and a survivor of a brain bleed in 2004.
