As a genealogist, I like to take photos for the purposes of remembering events, people and places that I come across in my daily life. I'm an admirer of the work left by Francis Frith; his photographic records of towns and villages as they were at that time has left us an invaluable view of history. I too like to photographically record the places I visit, just because I can and because I like to think that maybe one day in the future my descendants will appreciate seeing the world through my eyes.

I also like to take advantage of my husband & eldest son's hobby of 4x4/off-roading along ancient byways....I join them so that I can take pictures of anything interesting that I see en route, things that aren't seen by the general public.

And I want to improve my photography so I have set myself a challenge.....I aim to find the beauty in the town in which I live. Gillingham (Dorset) is a run-down, sad place with too many closed shops.....I'm going to find the good things about the place from an aesthetic point of view.
