Hi, I’m Vanesa and blog at www.newnestdesigns.com. I am a working mom who likes to sew and quilt when I can steal a few hours after my son goes to bed.

I enjoying quilting and have lately been breaking away from patterns and trying more non-traditional styles that are more improvisational in piecing and quilting (no rulers, no stencils, etc). My Flickr name "Sort of square" references that appreciation for wonderfully imperfect, wonky and just sort of square quilt blocks. I think my love of the modern quilting aesthetic stems from my love of “modern” art more generally, one of my favorite things to do when I travel is to visit modern art museums and I have a large collection of art books!

When it comes to sewing/quilting style I like: Improvisational/wonky, free-motion quilting, linen &; shot cotton, solids and sorta solids, geometric prints, grey as a neutral

Other things I enjoy: yoga, audiobooks, salsa dancing, breakfast & coffee, swimming, wine tasting and travel to wine country, entertaining guests/throwing parties at home, flea markets (always looking for vintage sewing items)
