I am a mid-30s stay-at-home father, with a background bent more towards graphic design theater and fine art then photography.... That is until recently, I hadn't ever really entertained the thought of picking up anything more than a point and shoot camera, until I realized that I didn't like using stock photography for graphic design projects. So I started researching cameras, brands, artists, lenses, technique, you name it. And after a brief encounter with the "Brooklyn New York camera Mafia" (ordered my camera from the wrong people, spent two months trying to get my money back... But all's well that ends well) I was off and running.
I have a predilection towards night photography, I really like both the end product and the technical nature of producing interesting or compelling images.
I also have the added benefit of already knowing Photoshop illustrator and a host of adobe's other programs, so the only area that I'm really running to catch up is hands-on fieldwork.
I've always taken quickly to technical gadgets, and have learned years worth of technique in a short time. I am not one to simply rely on fixing things in postproduction, just because I know Photoshop doesn't mean that I should alter images all the way into some sort of unintended folk art. I enjoy the process, balancing speed and precision, f-stop and shutter priority, when to use ISO, and when to give it time... it's just getting the time to apply these where my real challenges arise. and when I do have time, I reverse engineer the things I find interesting from the artists I find compelling, all the while trying to find my own personal spin on new fads and time-tested techniques.
Although I'm not a vain man, I hope to one day be the inspiration to others venturing out on the same path.
