Sucheta Das, a photographer based in Kolkata (India) completed her Honors in Geography from Calcutta University. She had attended the photojournalism workshops carried out by Magnum photographer Raghu Rai and fashion photographic workshop by eminent photographer Atul Kasbekar. She had participated in 13 days workshop carried out by National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry. She has working experience last 17 years with Reuters International news agency, Gulf News, Dubai and Associated Press (AP).
Sucheta runs her own photography Institute “Images Redefined” in Kolkata, India for future professional and serious amateurs. Sucheta owns a fully operational fashion studio, connected with professional models and make-up artists for glamour, fashion, product and commercial photo session at Kolkata.
Her pictures have appeared in national and international vernacular dailies including Time, Washington Post, London Times, National Geographic web page, Newsweek, Herald Tribune, Sundays Times, New York Times, The Guardian, Sipa Press, Le Monde magazine in Paris, Corbis, Private magazine, Times of India, India Today, Hindustan times, Hindu, Telegraph, Economics Times, Business line and others.
She also works on several human interest projects for social development of developing countries.
Sucheta won several International and national awards including World Press Photo Golden Eye award, National Geography Award, Master Cup, Yonhap International Press Photo Award (YIPPA), Humanity Photo awards (HPA), Canadian International Digital Photography award (CIDPA), Hopkin University’s Protection Project award, Allard Prize for International integrity from University of British Columbia, European Journalism Centre (EJC), Photo Annual award, Several times World Gala award, Emirates award, Best Female Photojournalist award, National Press Photo awards, 2 times National Media Grants, 3 times awards from Ministry of External Affairs-Government of India, Red Bull Photojournalist award, Global Steel award, Best Digital Pic award, Emirates award and others….
Her work has been selected as “Best Photographer of 2011” at World Photographic Club in UK in the year 2012. Her image had been selected picture for book, the best of Reuters photography “The Art of Seeing 2” and one of the cover picture for Reuters 150 years Magazine. South Asia's largest selling magazine "Better Photography" has selected her as one of the best woman photojournalist in India and they have published her work and interview in their cover story of August, 2005.
Sucheta had worked for several books on tribal dances for Ministry of Culture, Government of India and her images of Indian traditional folk dances published as a year calendar for Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Her own First Book "Indien" has launched from Germany September, 2012.
Sucheta does several workshops and discussion in all over India and abroad on photojournalism regularly and she has been selected as one of the juror in several national and international photo contests several times.
She has done more than 160 solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad.
