We live in Berkeley, California, two (now retired) mechanical engineers with Fine Arts backgrounds. We've been here since 1967.

We joined Flickr at a time when I (JHK) began taking huge numbers of photographs. Now (since the pandemic) not that many photographs, sometimes only motivated to take them when I see something that is interesting in 3D, and we've ended our Pro status (necessitating the deletion of over 16,000 photos).

Early in our life together, Mme K and I identified as Artists. Life's necessities, however, channeled us into more practical activities (like supporting our children) and we had 30 year careers as mechanical engineers.

While my enthusiasm to return to Art too quickly floundered in disappointment in my skill and frustration, the hours of mostly quiet hours caring for our small grandchildren found me scratching our quick somewhat quirky gag cartoons (small children do make us see the funnier side of things). Cartoons, the "9th Art", it seemed are prefect for me - quick, no material investment, and no commitments, and it's become a serious habit, providing a means of amusing myself (and, when lucky, others) or give vent to disbelief, sorrow and outrage when I read the news.

One does not need to have a Flickr account, but I find much pleasure in interest in following some of you Flickr members for 2 decades and counting. And, through your comments and emails, feel a connection with many of you.
