Hello, my name is Shigeki Yamamoto, and I go by my pseudonym "Shashinsky". What does it mean, you might ask. Well, this is a name I made up by combining 写真, which is pronounced "shashin" and means "photography" in Japanese, and 好き, pronounced "suki" and means "like" in Japanese. I'm a photo lover, you know. I mainly use film to make photographs. I also have digital cameras, but I enjoy the process of shooting, developing and scanning film. I take photographs for my own memories and for re-experiencing the moments I lived and witnessed. The subject of a photograph is called 被写体 in Japanese. Literally, it means "an object that is shot". What you see in my photographs are objects that are captured by me through my eye. So the real subject in each of these photographs is me.
