Alfred Horford Reynoso was born June 3, 1986 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Growing up on an island famous for producing baseball legends, Al had different plans for himself. His eyes were fixed on an orange leather ball, one that would guide him to a future destined in basketball. His passion for the game developed as a young boy when he watched his father Tito Horford play in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Washington Wizards. His favorite players as a child were Grant Hill, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O’ Neal.

In the summer of 2000, Al was given an opportunity to further the development of his basketball talents. He moved to Lansing, Michigan where he would attend Grand Ledge High School. Al holds seven school records including all time leading scorer with 1239 points. As a senior he was The Class A Player of the Year, averaging 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4.9 blocks. While at Grand Ledge he also played on an AAU team, Michigan Mustangs, where they placed runner-up in the Adidas Big Time National Tournament. With a spectacular high school career and emerging talent, prestigious Universities heavily recruited Al to put on their school jersey. After one visit to the Sunshine State, Al knew he was home.

Al attended the University Florida where he studied Telecommunications and wore a bright orange and blue jersey with the number 42 on it. Al was joined with a talented recruiting class that would be known as the “04’s,” Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer and Taureen Green. This squad would change school history by capturing back-to-back NCAA Championship titles. While at Florida Al was a three time SEC Tournament Champion 2005-07, SEC Tournament MVP 2007 and, he was the starting power forward on both the 2006-07 Division I National Championship teams.

In 2007 Al announced he would enter the NBA Draft. At the draft he was quickly picked third overall by the Atlanta Hawks. Since then, his career with the Hawks has taken flight, and he has been able to help the team reach great heights with his winning mentality. During his Rookie year 2007-08, Al was chosen to participate in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge during All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, he made the All Rookie First Team, he was runner-up for Rookie of the Year, and he helped lead the Hawks to their first playoff berth since 1999. During his sophomore year 2008-09, Al continued to work hard and was selected to participate as a sophomore in the Rookie Challenge during All-Star Weekend in Phoenix AZ, he also helped the Hawks clinch a spot in the playoffs. In his third year 2009-10, he was nominated to play in the 2010 All-Star game in Dallas, TX, his first All-Star appearance, and again helped lead his Hawks to yet another run in the playoffs. This season Al has gained a more critical role on the team as he serves as a Team Captain. His goals this year include winning more than 50 games during the season, and clinching another seed for the Eastern Conference Playoffs in April.

Al attributes all of his success to his hard work, dedication and discipline, but also to the people who have helped him along the way. His biggest influences have been his Mother, Grandfather and College Coach. When Al is off the court you can find him spending time with his family, listening to music, traveling the world and swimming in a nearby beach.
