I spend a lot of time rattling around New York, and this is some of what I see, there and elsewhere.

I love making photographs, but for complicated reasons I went years without taking a real picture with a professional camera. Then I got a camera phone and rediscovered the joy of seeing the image and making it happen.

I took thousands of pictures through the dirty lens of my 1.3-megapixel Motorola e815, despite its frustrating delays, its poor quality and its lack of control. But it reopened photography for me.

Eventually I got a new phone. But I also got a new Canon G7, the sweetest and most powerful non-pro camera I've ever seen. And now I have a Leica G-Lux 2, which is as small as a cellphone and takes beautiful, beautiful pictures. So I can still keep it in my pocket to help me see New York and the rest of the world.

Enjoy.
