is a painter, printmaker, photographer and mixed-media artist whose practice has developed across more than four decades through painting, lithography, collagraph, photography, frottage, charcoal, digital works and, more recently, AI-assisted image-making.

Although the materials have changed repeatedly, the work is connected by a persistent investigation into transformation and unstable identity. An observed object, coastal landscape, photograph, memory, printed mark or generated image frequently provides an originating reality, but rarely remains intact. Instead it is subjected to processes of translation, fragmentation, rubbing, printing, erasure, recombination or digital permutation until something simultaneously recognisable and strange emerges.

The North Wales coast has provided one of the practice's most persistent environments. Sea walls, groynes, weathered timber, stones, wind, water and changing light recur throughout the work, but increasingly cease to function as straightforward landscape motifs. They become bodies, organisms, monuments, enclosures and psychological presences. Alongside this coastal territory runs an equally persistent engagement with Surrealism, dream imagery, chance and the capacity of accidental or found forms to suggest realities beyond their originating identities.

Frottage became particularly important from the early 1990s onward. Because a rubbing records physical contact while leaving the originating surface absent, the process provided the artist with a material means of exploring memory, trace, erosion, impermanence and transformation. These concerns developed through the extended Sunless bodies of work, in which forms continually migrate between body, landscape, organism, architecture and void.

The recent AI-assisted works continue rather than replace this investigation. AI is approached as another transformational matrix: generated propositions are selected, rejected, altered, recombined and sequenced within a process continuous with earlier experiments in printmaking, photography, frottage and chance.
