Using the most desired wood species of the southeastern United States, The Door Mill creates entryways that capture the true spirit of old world Europe. Our doors are designed and custom handcrafted, one at a time, in the USA. All components are hand selected and assembled by us with great care. We strive to produce the door that, like fine European wine, improves with time.
As craftsmen we are constantly seeking a way to fulfill our desires to create. These passions are what drive us continually to strive for more innovative designs. The Door Mill is that outlet for us as craftsmen and artists. The satisfaction we derive from producing these distinctive entryways is only heightened with our ability to share these creations with our customers.
The raw materials we choose, are what we feel are the best selections this part of the country has to offer. The action of the saw blade and tooling of the planer knives against the wood unveils a new piece of canvas with each pass. The beauty of this wood combined with our centuries old handcrafting techniques create most exquisite results.
All components used to create our final product are solid wood. There are no veneers, there is no finger jointing, and no glue joints to create a large component from multiple smaller pieces. Plain and simple, this is lumber, properly sized, tooled, and fitted to create sculpture that we call doors.
The most beautiful pine lumber comes from old growth timber. Due to the large demand for this magnificent resource, old growth pine has long since vanished except in a few isolated pockets. At thedoormill.com we recover and reclaim this hard to find precious resource from old tobacco barns, homes, or even the occasional urban dwelling.
With the re-birth of this beautiful material, thedoormill.com handcrafts unique, one of a kind entries for our customers that can not be replicated. These pine doors are not only elegant and rich in character they are actual pieces of American history. The last person to touch and appreciate the warmth and beauty of this wood may have been a soldier of the Civil War, a mercantile owner on Main Street, or even a carpenter while building an early American structure.
Whatever the history behind your reclaimed pine door rest assured that we strive to let that history resonate through to your finished product.
